It's #TransformationTuesday. Today, we're featuring Kelli Bonomo. Her story is one many of you can relate to. Kelli would gain weight, go on a diet, then gain the weight back. She continued on this path for years. Then one day, she decided to join HLN's 8-Week Transformation Challenge.
Kelli lost a total of 30 lbs, 13% body fat and 11 inches. Six months later, she's lost five more pounds and is holding steady at her goal weight of 165 lbs. Kelli's success inspired her daughter, Kaytlyn, to take on the 8-Week Challenge. Kaytlyn had gained 50 pounds after her father died a year and a half ago and was ready for a change.
Now 30 pounds lighter, Kaytlyn is on her way to a healthier and happier life. The best part, mom and daughter are doing it together. Here's how you can do the same.
I remember when my son Hunter was just a few weeks old and his eyes would follow my every move. As our kids get older it's easy to forget those days and especially that they watch and see everything we do.
As parents it's easy to skip meals, eat processed foods and miss workouts. We're all busy. The challenge with that is by watching our example, our kids begin to develop their relationship with food, exercise and their bodies.
Your body's fat cells are primarily developed during adolescence and once you have a fat cell it doesn't go away. So it's crucial that our kids learn how to eat now, so they prevent unnecessary fat cells from ever forming.
This is exactly what Kelli Bonomo has done, helping her daughter Kaytlyn take action with her health by focusing on three things:
1) Leading By Example: You must show your kids the way
2) Engaging, not Pushing: Telling your kids they need to lose weight helps no one. Engage them in the experience by doing cool things together that create habits, like going grocery shopping, cooking healthy foods and working out.
3) Making it Fun: We all like to have fun, so keep it fun. Try new, tasty foods, experiment with different sports and get creative with calorie-burning family activities instead of zoning out in front of the TV.
The power of living your health with your kids is one of the most incredible experiences you will ever have. Just ask Kelli!
