Connor Franta has more than 3 million subscribers on YouTube, 2 million followers on Twitterand 2 million followers on Instagram. His most popular video on YouTube has more than 5 and half million views (and counting). Who is he, you ask?
Franta is a YouTube star (although your kids could have probably told you that).
Technically, that’s his occupation (as in, what pays the bills), but he doesn’t like to see it as work. The almost 22-year-old started vlogging about four years ago just for fun, so “the fact that my videos now get millions of views is absolutely insane to me,” he tells HLN.
The YouTuber turned his love of making digital videos into a career: Franta is now working on an interactive book with Simon & Schuster, using his social influence to help his favorite charities, designing clothingand trying to get his “foot in the retail door.” His dream is to get his designs into PacSun or Urban Outfitters, “because I thoroughly enjoy going to those stores,” he says.
Franta admits that with Internet fame and a busy IRL social schedule come a number of challenges. “You’re putting your life online for anyone to see and anyone to judge,” he tells HLN. “That can get overwhelming.”
But he can always count on his fans to cheer him up. He says they’re his “emotional support, 24/7.” Amidst the stress of being a big-time YouTuber, interacting with his fans and seeing his fans connect with each other is what reminds him why he enjoys his work so much.
“If you’re not doing something you enjoy thoroughly, I think you’re completely wasting your time. So, work hard at something, love working hard at that something, and make something out of it,” Franta tells HLN. “Whatever that something is, is completely up to you.”
