9-year-old dies in sand cave collapse

  • Girl was unconscious when crews reached her
  • Beachgoer: 'We heard screaming from the beach'

A beach trip turned deadly for a 9-year-old on Friday.

Authorities said the young girl was digging a hole at a beach in Lincoln City, Oregon, when the sand caved in, burying her. It's not unusual for kids to build holes in the sand, but safety experts say most people don't understand that the sand can collapse and it’s very difficult it is to get people out.

Bob Heye from CNN affiliate KATU has more on the tragic accident.
