Teen gets $70K for giving school her passwords

  • Teen says school forced her to turn over passwords to Facebook and e-mail
  • Teen and parents get $70,000 from school as settlement

A Minnesota teen and her family have gotten a settlement from the Minnewaska School District after they say the district forced her to turn over her e-mail and Facebook passwords.

In 2011, Riley Stratton was in sixth grade when she posted on Facebook that she disliked one of her teacher aides. The school asked for her password, but then took matters into its own hands and accessed the passwords. Her parents say they did not give permission to the district to get those passwords. The district says the parents were informed, but agreed to the settlement.
