Sisters lose both parents within 48 hours

  • Oklahoma sisters lose mother and father in separate tragedies
  • Social media helping raise money for the sisters

A shaken community and the nation are using social media to rally around 16-year-old Emily and 11-year-old Hallie Cooper from Oklahoma. The sisters lost both of their parents just hours apart.

The girls' mother, Crystal Cooper, was helping them get ready for an FFA livestock show when she collapsed. They rushed her to the hospital, but she was pronounced dead from a heart attack the next day.

Emily Cooper went on to compete the next day in her mother's honor and won the championship. Then came the second bit of crushing news. The sisters' father, John Cooper, was killed in a car accident.

Now, friends and family have set up an auction to benefit the girls, and a Gofundme page has been set up for donations.

Psychologist Dr. Erik Fisher weighs in on how the girls can cope in the midst of this heartbreaking tragedy.
