Zimmerman signs autographs at gun show

  • George Zimmerman greeted guests at Saturday's New Orlando Gun Show
  • The event was moved, because of reported public pressure over Zimmerman's appearance

George Zimmerman shook hands and signed autographs Saturday at an Orlando, Florida, gun show.

Organizers for the New Orlando Gun Show invited Zimmerman to the event as a "special guest." During his appearance, Zimmerman greeted people and autographed photos of him posing with his dog.

The Arms Room posted a picture Saturday to its Facebook page featuring Zimmerman holding a portrait of an American flag. The caption read, "Come on out and meet George Z! He's here a few more hours."

The decision to have Zimmerman reportedly was not well-received by everyone. The planners claim the event -- which was previously scheduled to be held at the Majestic Event Center -- had to be moved to the Arms Room after adding Zimmerman to their schedule.

Organizer Mike Piwowarski told HLN affiliate WESH, "They told us they canceled for community pressure. Once it was known he was going to be there, they said that their community -- phone calls, emails -- they were getting backlash and they didn't want his type of person there."

According to WESH, Piwowarski plans to sue the Majestic for an estimated $300,000 in lost gun sales.

Piwowarski said he supported Zimmerman during his trial in the February 26, 2012, shooting death of Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman was later acquitted on murder and manslaughter charges.
