  • Friend used a tourniquet, but man died before reaching shore

A shark attacked a man fishing from a kayak, and he died before he could get back to shore.

It happened Monday a half-mile off the island of Maui.

The victim's friend, who was on another kayak, said he paddled to him, used a tourniquet to stop the bleeding and flagged down a tour boat.

Authorities believe the man died during the ride to shore.
