Body in sugar cane field ID'd as missing nurse

NEED TO KNOW
  • Kimberly Lindsey was last seen on October 27
  • Authorities say case now a homicide investigation

Authorities have confirmed a body found Wednesday in a sugar cane field in Hendry County, Florida, as 49-year-old missing school nurse Kimberly Lindsey.

HLN affiliate WPTV reported Friday that investigators are switching their focus from a missing persons' case to a homicide investigation.

Lindsey, who was last seen on October 27, didn't show up for work at Bak Middle School of the Arts in West Palm Beach. When authorities went to Lindsey's home, there were signs of a violent confrontation, but her car and personal belongings were still there.

Lindsey's daughters wrote on their "Find Kim Lindsey" Facebook page, "It breaks our hearts to have to write this, but our mom has passed away. There are no words to describe how we feel. This is an extremely tough time for us but we will try to stay Kim strong. Thank you everyone for all your help in the search, and please keep Kim alive in your hearts. She will always be a part of us. -- Sarah, Sofia and Savannah."

The cause of death is not yet known.

A $1,000 reward has been offered in the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office at 561-688-3400 or call 800-458-TIPS (4577).
