Tom Clancy, the undisputed king of the political thriller, died Tuesday at a Baltimore hospital. He was 66 .
Clancy's books “The Hunt for Red October,” “Clear and Present Danger,” and many others were made into big screen blockbusters that helped Clancy dominate Hollywood thrillers for nearly two decades.
His iconic character, CIA analyst Jack Ryan, was played by Hollywood's biggest stars, including Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck. Best-selling thriller writer and TV show creator Brad Meltzer, calls Clancy his hero: “If you write thrillers today, you owe Tom Clancy… He paved the way. A huge loss for all of us tonight.”
