A transgender teen has won her battle to make history at her California high school. But sadly, that victory has come at a high cost. Cassidy Lynn Campbell is breaking hearts on YouTube today, with a video describing the brutal backlash she’s faced since becoming her school’s first-ever transgender homecoming queen. "The one night that should be the happiest day for a girl." Campbell says through sobs. "And I can't even be happy."
Before her win last week, Cassidy said she campaigned for the crown for all the other transgender teens out there. "I'm doing this for the kids who can't be themselves," she announced at the time. But soon after she won the crown, she was the target of vicious and hateful online bullying that, as we see in her new video, has her near her breaking point. "Why is it I f*****g won homecoming queen but I'm not happy?" she asks. "I'm always judged and I'm always looked down upon."
Showbiz Tonight brings you more of Campbell's heart-wrenching confession at 11 p.m. ET/PT on HLN.
