A Florida family is hoping public outrage will drive the state to press charges in the death of Marlon Brown. Brown ran from police after officers tried to pull him over for not wearing a seatbelt. During the chase, Brown got out of his car and took off running in a field. Officer James Harris pursued him in his police car, and when Brown fell, Harris allegedly ran over him.
Harris was fired, and the Brown family got a $500,000 settlement from the city, but they want Harris to face jail time. Shortly after the incident, prosecutors put the case in front of a grand jury, but the jury failed to indict the officer on vehicular manslaughter charges.
The Browns hope the disturbing dashcam video of the incident will spark a renewed criminal investigation.
