Police run over suspect during chase

  • Officer fired but not charged
  • Victim's family released dash cam video

What started as a routine traffic stop for not wearing a seatbelt ended in the death of a Florida man.  On May 8th, police attempted to pull over Marlon Brown for allegedly not wearing a seatbelt.  Instead of stopping, Brown took off and led police on a chase. At the end of a road Brown jumped out of his car and started running. The police pursued him in their cars. As Brown ran off the road and through a grass lot, he falls and one of the police cars runs him over, killing him.

The evidence was presented to a grand jury and they decided not enough evidence to criminally prosecute Officer James Harris for vehicular manslaughter. Officer Harris has been fired and the city of DeLand, Florida paid the family $550,000 in a settlement but did not admit any wrongdoing.  Now Brown’s family has released the dash cam video from the car that strikes Brown.  The family says they want justice and criminal charges filed against Officer Harris.
