One of America's most beloved cities has been battling an uptick in violence in recent years. A 3-year-old boy was among 13 people injured Thursday in a shooting at a basketball court.  His family gave an emotional plea to stop the violence.

In 2012, the city reported 500 homicides -- more than any other U.S. city. Now, many residents there are asking what will it take to stop the violence and protect their children? Former CNN Hero and youth mentor Diana Latiker has some possible solutions.
