We bust TV cops!

  • Lots of things we see on TV cop shows are unrealistic, but some aren't
  • Two real-life investigators help us separate fact from fiction

There are certain things we see all the time on TV cop shows: detectives cracking jokes over disgusting murder scenes; cops who get in shootouts basically every time they step outside; and crime labs that are more sleek and high-tech than the bridge of the Starship Enterprise.

Do you ever wonder how much of that is real? As part of a special edition of Showbiz Tonight - "Secrets of TV Crime Shows" - we brought in two real-life crime solvers: Former FBI profiler and consultant to CBS' "Criminal Minds" Jim Clemente, and former Las Vegas crime scene investigator Yolanda McClary (fun fact: she inspired Marg Helgenberger's character on "CSI"). They tell us what is myth and what is truth on TV crime shows - and some of their answers may surprise you!

Showbiz Tonight separates the myths from the truths at 11 p.m. ET/PT on HLN.
