UPDATE: Less than 36 hours after ICE's Operation Predator app launched, a Michigan man profiled in the app was arrested. Mark Robert Austin was arrested Friday afternoon without incident after numerous tips from the public were called in to the ICE tip line at 1-866-DHS-2ICE.
HLN's Raising America is focused on stories that help us protect our children. So when we heard about the new app from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) that focuses on tracking wanted sex predators, we knew this was something we had to share.
The app is the first of its kind in U.S. federal law enforcement and is designed to seek the public’s help in tracking down fugitives and unknown suspect child predators.
“We recognize that people receive a great deal of information on their mobile devices and we are hopeful that this app will encourage them to submit tips about suspects and to learn more about our work investigating child exploitation crimes.” said ICE Director of Public Affairs Brian Hale.
Another goal for the app was to make it user friendly enough that the public would not be hesitant in reporting tips on these cases. ICE Deputy Special Agent in Charge Ryan Spradlin joined Kyra Phillips to give a demo on how the app works.
