12 kids hurt in swing ride malfunction

  • Attraction was part of Oyster Festival in Norwalk, Connecticut
  • Investigators: Swing ride came to sudden stop

Twelve children and an adult were taken to the hospital Sunday after an amusement park ride threw them to the ground.

The accident happened at the Norwalk Oyster Festival in Connecticut.

According to investigators, the ride lost power and just stopped, causing the swings to hit the base of the ride.

"Just to see all those poor little kids in so much pain and everything going on, it was really scary," witness Shaun Marsh told HLN affiliate NEWS 12.

The owner of the amusement company said the ride was inspected by state officials Friday and deemed safe and operational. Authorities are working to determine the cause of the accident.
