In her senior year of high school, Kaitlyn Hunt, then 17, dated a 14-year-old schoolmate. But when Hunt turned 18, their sexual relationship, even if consensual, became illegal.
Now Hunt, who turned 19 last week, faces two counts of lewd and lascivious battery and could end up with a 15-year prison sentence.
Prosecutors had offered Hunt a plea bargain, including no jail time, no sex offense charge, and no registration as a sex offender.
But when prosecutors uncovered about 20,000 texts, including some with obscene pictures or video, they took the plea deal off the table. Hunt's future was to be decided in a hearing Tuesday.
