Sex offender talks custody controversy

  • Convicted sex offender Nicholas Elizondo gets full custody of 6-year-old girl
  • Oklahoma mother fights to get her daughter back from Elizondo who's in California
  • Nicholas Elizondo convicted of sexually assaulting other daughter, 6, six years ago

Oklahoma mother Lisa Knight is wondering why a judge has sent her 6-year-old daughter to live with her father, Nicholas Elizondo, who is a registered sex offender.

Elizondo was sentenced for sexually assaulting his other 6-year-old daughter six years ago in California, but he claims he was wrongfully convicted.

On Tuesday night, Dr. Drew was joined by Derek Logue, a convicted sex offender, who fights for the rights of people like Elizondo.

“The judge did what many should do -- go beyond the label and look at the person before them,” Logue said. “Not every sex offender is a pedophile. There are a lot of ways to land on a sex registry these days. Not everybody did so because they molested or raped somebody. Until society looks at it from an evidence-based standpoint, we're never going to be able to get past the label."
