10 former contestants have filed a lawsuit against producers and sponsors of "American Idol" claiming they were disqualified from the show because of their race.

In a 429-page complaint filed in federal court, the African-American contestants allege the show's producers used criminal histories and other background information to "systematically disqualify and publicly humiliate" them, while they did not do so to white contestants with similar histories.

The disqualified contestants are seeking at least $25 million each.
