Saying "This is outrageous," defense attorney Don West went on a tirade Thursday over the prosecution's request to add third-degree murder to George Zimmerman's charges related to child abuse because Trayvon Martin was a minor when he was killed.
West, who is no stranger to run-ins with the judge, characterized the state's move as a "trick" to murk up the trial with “loosely connected child abuse case law.”
"Just when I thought this case couldn't get any more bizarre, the state is seeking third-degree murder based on child abuse. Is the court going to give this any serious contention or consideration, because if so we have a lot of talking to do," said West, appearing to seethe with anger.
After hearing the arguments, the judge decided not to allow the charge because the facts of the case didn't support it, she said.
