Martin family reacts to dramatic testimony

  • George Zimmerman charged with second-degree murder in death of Trayvon Martin
  • HLN is covering the George Zimmerman trial live, gavel to gavel

The prosecution’s star witness Rachel Jeantel was hammered with questions for a second day in the George Zimmerman trial Thursday.

She was grilled by defense attorneys regarding the consistency of her statements related to the night Trayvon Martin died.

Phone records show that the 19 year old was talking to her friend Martin just moments before he was shot to death on February 26, 2012.

When Martin family attorney Natalie Jackson was asked how the family reacted to Jeantel’s testimony, she responded, in part, “They think she did well. Her story was consistent.”

Watch the full response in the video above.

Zimmerman, a former neighborhood watch captain, is charged with second-degree murder for shooting 17-year-old Martin last year.  He told authorities that he was pursuing Martin because of the rash of crimes in the area.  Zimmerman said he was forced to kill Martin in self-defense after a confrontation between the two.
