Zimmerman defense begins with... a joke

In a move that may be critiqued by legal pundits for quite some time, defense attorney Don West began his opening statement in the George Zimmerman trial Monday with a knock-knock joke.  

You can hear it for yourself in this clip. The punchline being: "George Zimmerman who?"

"You're on the jury!"

The jury's reaction couldn't be seen on camera, but the room was silent.

West had prefaced the joke by saying, "At considerable risk let me say [the joke]...but I think you [the jury] are the perfect audience for it"

UPDATE: After the lunch break, West began by addressing the jury and telling them "No more bad jokes I promise that. I'm convinced it was the delivery though, I really thought that was funny, but I'm sorry if I offended anyone about that."
