Rock legend and cancer survivor Melissa Etheridge is taking on Angelina Jolie’s decision to have a preventive double mastectomy.
In a brand new interview with The Washington Blade, Etheridge is quoted as saying this about Angelina Jolie’s stunning decision: "I wouldn't call it the brave choice, I actually think it's the most fearful choice you can make when confronting anything with cancer. My belief is that cancer comes from inside you and so much of it has to do with the environment of your body. It's the stress that will turn that gene on or not."
Showbiz Tonight reached out to Etheridge about those controversial comments and she told us, "I don't have any opinion of what she ‘should have’ done. All are free to choose. I only objected to the term ‘brave’ describing it."
Still tonight there’s growing outrage over Melissa’s candor. Did she cross the line?
“I think logically what Melissa said makes sense. She was really responding to a term that was used to describe Angelina’s choice for doing the double mastectomy,” entertainment journalist Kelley Carter tells Showbiz Tonight. “But emotionally, emotionally it sounds extremely insensitive when you factor in the fact that Angelina lost her own mother from this same disease.”
