It’s Daytime Emmy season here at HLN! For the second straight year, HLN is bringing you Daytime Emmy Awards live on Sunday, June 16! This year some of the soap operas nominated for Outstanding Drama Series have featured fictional trials that are almost as shocking as the real-life ones we cover here on HLN. We thought it’d be fun to turn our resident legal experts loose on the two [fictional] trials that kept soap fans riveted this past year: the murder trial of mobster Sonny Corinthos on “General Hospital” and the attempted murder trial of the scheming Phyllis Summers Newman on “The Young and the Restless.”

What do our legal experts think of Sonny’s defense strategy? Should Phyllis have even stood trial at all? Check out our take on trials that, for once, literally are straight from a soap opera.

Catch the Daytime Emmy Awards live on Sunday, June 16 on HLN, hosted by "Good Morning America's" Sam Champion, HLN's A.J. Hammer and Robin Meade. Coverage begins at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT!
