The 12-year-old California boy who is accused of stabbing his 8-year-old sister to death last month is maintaining his innocence.
He pleaded not guilty to a second degree murder charge in a Calaveras County juvenile courtroom this week.
The murder of Leila Fowler drew national attention after the 12-year old initially told deputies that he witnessed an intruder stab his sister. The boy even had a description of the man. That led to a 2,000 hour manhunt and investigation by the sheriff's department and FBI.
After two weeks on edge, authorities arrested the 12-year old. He's been in juvenile detention ever since. If convicted, he would be behind bars until his 23rd birthday.
The boy's attorney, Mark Reichel, will join "Raising America With Kyra Phillips," on Friday, May 31 at 12 p.m. ET to discuss the evidence in this case and why he believes his client is innocent.
