Dr. Drew

Driven by current events, "Dr. Drew" on HLN focuses on the human - and human behavior - at the center of the story.

Why is a convicted murderer tweeting?

  • Jodi Arias was found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander
  • Arias' friend Donavan Bering says she's tweeting on her behalf

Jodi Arias’ friend Donavan Bering has told HLN that she is the one managing the Jodi Arias’ Twitter account, which now has more than 61,000 followers.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office tells us that even though he 32-year-old convicted murderer does not have any access to a computer in jail, nothing can prevent her from posting through a third party.

Bering says that when she talks to Arias, she’s told what to tweet.

The Twitter account has been active since mid-February with posts about her life, the media and even one asking for donations.

But on Tuesday night, attorney Mark Eiglarsh told Dr. Drew, “The bigger issue is -- she's a convicted murderer tweeting. So the only thing that allows her to do that is this little document called the Constitution. And I'm certain, if our forefathers were here we'd say, ‘Listen. did you do what you did so she could tweet?’”

Dr. Drew On Call airs Monday through Thursday on HLN at 9 p.m. ET.  Follow the show on Facebook and Twitter @DrDrewHLN.
