Obama serves big laughs at White House dinner

NEED TO KNOW
  • Annual White House correspondents' dinner held Saturday
  • Late Night star Conan O'Brien emcee
  • Psy, Amy Poehler and Katy Perry among stars who attended

Conan O’Brien had a tough act to follow at the White House Correspondents' dinner: President Obama!

The late-night comedian hosted the annual event on Saturday.

But the president had plenty of one liners himself, including a joke inspired by the opening of the George W. Bush presidential library in Texas which the Obama's attended last week:

"I'm also hard at work on plans for the Obama library. Some have suggested that we put it in my birthplace but I'd rather keep it in the United States."

Some 3-thousand people attended the dinner that included celebrities like Korean pop star Psy.

Not everyone was laughing. Former Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin took to social media to sound off about the event in a salty tweet:

"That #WHCD was pathetic. The rest of America is out there working our a**es off while these DC a**clowns throw themselves a #nerdprom(Note: The asterisks are ours... you can click her twitter handle to see the unedited version)

The dinner raises money for journalism scholarships.
