D.C. Sniper's wife: My message for Katherine Russell

NEED TO KNOW
  • Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev are Boston bombing suspects
  • Katherine Russell Tsarnaev has not talked to the FBI

The bombings at the Boston Marathon on April 15 shook the country, and more than a week later, authorities are still looking for answers. Monday, the U.S. Attorney General announced Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is charged with using a weapon of mass destruction against persons and property, and officers say he and his brother, Tamerlan, teamed up to pull off the bombing. Tamerlan died after a shootout with police early last Friday morning. Now, the FBI wants to talk to Tamerlan's wife.

Katherine Russell married Tamerlan Tsarnaev three years ago, according to marriage records at the Cambridge City Hall. They have a 3-year-old daughter together. Russell's lawyer, Amato Deluca, tells CNN's Chris Lawrence that she was raised Christian and converted to Islam after the wedding. Deluca also says Russell didn't know anything about her husband's alleged criminal activity until she saw news reports on television.

Mildred Muhammad knows something about Russell's situation. Her ex-husband, John Allen Muhammad -- dubbed the "D.C. Sniper" -- was put to death for killing 10 people and wounding three others in 2002 in the Washington, D.C., area. Mildred told HLN’s Kyra Phillips that she had no clue what her ex-husband was doing, and that people should also believe Katherine Russell until they have a proven reason to do otherwise.
