Summer Sanders: ‘We will run again’

  • Olympian Summer Sanders had finished the Boston Marathon just an hour before two bombs exploded
  • Sanders: ‘My heart goes out… to all the people who are affected by and injured’

Among the many celebrities affected by the Boston bombing was Olympic gold medal winner Summer Sanders. Sanders ran the Boston Marathon on Monday and shares with Showbiz Tonight what it was like in the moments following the explosions.

Sanders made it back to her hotel, which was right across the street from the first blast, minutes before the two bombs went off.

“We all freaked out. We could feel it and the windows were shaking,” explained Sanders. Minutes later she was being evacuated from the hotel and admits she was “extremely frightened,” but was comforted by her mother who said “it’s not our time.” Sanders said in that moment she just wanted to get out of the area and home to her children.

Out of this tragedy Sanders wants people to remember some good will prevail and boldly told Showbiz Tonight, “I want to make sure this senseless act and the people who did this know that they didn’t win and we will run again.”
