Did Jay Z get permission to visit Cuba from President Obama himself?
The rapper suggested so in a new song called "Open Letter."
Jay-Z flew to Havana with Beyonce on their fifth anniversary for what has been labeled a government-approved educational trip.
In "Open Letter" he raps:
"Boy from the hood but got White House clearance."
Later in the song he names the president directly:
"Obama said chill you gonna get me impeached/You don't need this (expletive) anyway, chill with me on the beach."
But no matter what the lyrics say, the White House says the President had nothing to do with it.
Press Secretary Jay Carney pointed out during Thursday's briefing that it's the Treasury Department that issues travel licenses, not the White House. He went on to assure reporters, "The president did not communicate with Jay-Z over this trip."
So why did Jay-Z include that line in his rap? "I guess nothing rhymes with Treasury," Carney joked.
