Can one juror derail Jodi Arias trial?

  • Jodi Arias is charged with the murder of her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander
  • Jodi Arias could face the death penalty if convicted of murdering Alexander in 2008

When court is done for the day, the conversation is only just beginning. Watch HLN’s newest hit show "HLN After Dark: The Jodi Arias Trial" nightly at 10 p.m. on HLN.

The defense in the Jodi Arias trial demanded a mistrial on Tuesday. Attorneys for both sides, Jodi Arias and Travis Alexander’s family were all huddled in the judge’s chambers for over an hour.

When they finally returned to the courtroom, the judge announced that Juror 5 had been dismissed. The juror was seen leaving the courthouse sobbing while court observers noticed Jodi Arias smiling in court.

How will this affect the trial?  Can losing this one juror derail the whole case?

For complete coverage of the Jodi Arias trial, watch Jane Velez-Mitchell weeknights at 7 p.m. ET on HLN.
