A somber scene in Kaufman County, Texas: Police are trying to piece together what happened to District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife, Cynthia. The pair were gunned down in their home and discovered late Saturday. One official says a door was kicked in and there were bullet casings scattered everywhere.
The attack comes two months after Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse was shot to death outside the county courthouse. After that shooting, McLelland was very outspoken on the hunt for Hasse's killer. He spoke out in January saying he was confident they would find the perpetrator and "let the people of Kaufman County prosecute you to the fullest extent to the law."
Authorities have not identified a suspect and investigators are unsure if the two shootings are connected. The FBI and the Texas Rangers are assisting in the investigation.
Kaufman Mayor William Fortner seemed stumped on who would want to hurt the former district attorney. He said, "As far as I could tell, he was doing a really good job as a district attorney."
