Pope Francis leads first Easter Mass

  • Today marks the first Easter Mass for Pope Francis as the newly-elected pontiff
  • Hundreds packed St. Peter's Square for the event

Pope Francis celebrated his first Easter Mass as pontiff with hundreds packing St. Peter's Square to hear him speak. Crowds were wall-to-wall as the pope delivered his "to the city and the world" or Urbi et Orbi blessing from his papal balcony.

Donning an all-white robe, the new pontiff blessed the crowd and even stopped to kiss a baby as he exited the square. Jim Bitterman joined Weekend Express from Rome. He described the crowd's excitement and how Pope Francis set his Easter Mass apart from his predecessors.
