Dr. Drew

Driven by current events, "Dr. Drew" on HLN focuses on the human - and human behavior - at the center of the story.

Why are we so fascinated by Jodi Arias?

  • Jodi Arias, on trial for the murder of her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander, claims self-defense
  • Alexander was stabbed 29 times, shot, throat slashed

When court is done for the day, the conversation is only just beginning. Watch "HLN After Dark: The Jodi Arias Trial" nightly at 10 p.m. on HLN.

Jodi Arias claims she had to kill her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander in self-defense in June of 2008 at his Mesa, Arizona home, even though she had given authorities other stories about the circumstances of his death. She faces the death penalty if convicted of first-degree murder.

Many aspects of her life have become widely known since her trial began nearly three months ago. HLN’s Dr. Drew and his special guests took some time to discuss why people have become so fascinated with Arias.

“Our central nervous system as a viewer is disturbed in the presence of deceit," behavior expert Patti Wood said. "It stresses our bodies out.”

Forensic psychologist Cheryl Arutt added, “People are so fascinated that this attractive woman could do something so terrifying.”

And Dr. Drew noted, “Do not assume that other people’s brains work like yours does.”

Dr. Drew On Call airs Monday through Thursday on HLN at 9 p.m. ET.  Follow the show on Facebook and Twitter @DrDrewHLN.
