Whether you're looking for a reason to revisit Emerald City or jolt your nerves with an action-packed thriller, Mr. Moviefone has the lowdown on which movies are worth your while (and money)!
"Oz the Great and Powerful," Disney's prequel to the "Wizard of Oz" has gotten a lot of buzz with its star-studded cast (Mila Kunis, James Franco), but does it live up to the hype? Russ Leatherman, also known as Mr. Moviefone, says the new flick is missing the magic and wonder the original film has been giving viewers since 1939. He describes the new film "okay and boring" at best. He questioned the casting selection-- calling Franco as "Oz" a terrible choice.
The movie chronicles Oz's journey to the magical land and his attempt to save the city. Still determined to check it out for yourself? Leatherman says movie-goers and critics may have very different takes on the Disney spin. While critics may find fault with some of the effects or casting calls, movie-goers very well could fall in love with the "visuals and spectacle of it all."
Not in the mood for a nostalgic blast? Colin Farrell and Terrence Howard star in the new thriller, "Dead Man Down." Although he's tired of the guns and violence found in the genre-- Leatherman says the new action thriller is well done. He says the movie has all the right ingredients to attract its target audience: crime, revenge and bloodshed. Although it's not Mr. Moviefone's cup of tea, it may be worth checking out if you can't get enough of the darker flicks.
