Cleats? Check. Jersey? Check. Diapers? WHAT?
When star defender Christie Rampone hits the road for a game with the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team, Oreo yogurt and a monkey blanket top her packing list.
The three-time Olympic gold medalist is also a mother of two, and daughters Rylie, 7, and Reece, 3, have traveled nearly everywhere with her. “Traveling has been great for them because I grew up very shy and quiet. Not them," Rampone says. "Rylie's on her second passport, almost done with it. Reece is on her first."
The ultimate soccer mom says it’s tough for her and her husband Chris to pack an active family of four into a small hotel room, but they live by the motto “make it work.” That means giving Rylie a spelling test and making sure Reece gets a nap between practice sessions.
“Most of the time we have our own floor and that helps with bringing out the soccer ball and letting the girls run up and down the hallways and not disturbing the other guests,” Rampone says.
Rampone will be slightly closer to home this April, when the inaugural season of the National Women’s Soccer League gets underway. She’ll be donning a Sky Blue FC jersey in New Jersey, her home state.
