For a lot of people, Making it in America is all about taking a risk to make a better life.
Kate Endress says she has always been an entrepreneur at heart. Nothing drives her like the idea of building something valuable from scratch, and it doesn't hurt to do it with other "passionate dreamers." After a short career in the WNBA, Kate decided she needed to expand her experience beyond sports, and so she took a job as an investment banker on Wall Street. After that she worked as a private equity investor in Chicago. During that time, Kate got a chance to really see how difficult the retail business can be. She began to realize how e-commerce can fix a lot of problems, such as high rent, and there was one industry that hadn't yet transferred online -- eyewear.
So Kate co-founded DITTO -- an online eyewear company that uses virtual try-on technology to show users how different types of glasses would look on their face. The site offers hundreds of pairs of glasses for users to try.
When asked how she and DITTO are Making it in America, Kate said, "I read an article recently about how many companies are started with the goal of selling quickly and making a quick buck and that they aren’t really building anything of value. I hope to prove that American entrepreneurship is still alive and well. We are building innovative technology that solves a real customer problem, and we are doing so with purpose and passion!"
