Police in Newark say the motivation behind a vicious beating caught on tape was all over a debt dispute of $20. However what’s harder to comprehend is the motivation behind the people who just watched or walked on by. Educator Steve Perry and sports radio host Doug Stewart talk about the community and cultural factors that led to this incident.

“One of the things that’s important to understand here is this community is so desensitized to violence that they understand their role in it is to avoid saying anything to avoid being a victim of it,” Perry said.

“I want to hold a lot of these websites responsible as well,” Stewart said. “I know the young community has a fascination with having these staged videos sent to certain websites, and they become celebrities from it. There has to be some responsibilities by these sites in monitoring their content.”
