Jodi Arias continued her testimony Tuesday, a day after claiming that not only did her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander physically assault her, but she also alleges she caught him pleasuring himself to a photograph of a young boy in early 2008.
Arias' defense attorneys played a recording in court of a phone sex conversation between Arias and Alexander. Arias cried for the entire duration of the recording.
On Tuesday night, HLN’s Dr. Drew talked to trial lawyer Mark Eiglarsh, who made some strong remarks about the audio the jurors heard in court.
“If I'm the prosecutor, I'm throwing a party right now,” Eiglarsh said. “This was, in my opinion, a colossal mistake. This was equal to … having O.J. try on the gloves, but an opposite effect in terms of the defense.”
He explained, “Now you have evidence that contradicts directly her concept that she was some abused virgin.”
Arias claims she ultimately killed Alexander in self-defense, even though she had given authorities other stories about his death in the past.
After Alexander’s body was found in June of 2008 at his Mesa, Arizona home, Arias told police she was not involved in his killing. She later told investigators that she witnessed two intruders break in and kill him. Eventually, Arias said she killed Alexander in self-defense.
Dr. Drew On Call airs Monday through Wednesday on HLN at 9 p.m. ET. Follow the show on Facebook and Twitter @DrDrewHLN.
