Millions of people meet through online dating sites without a problem ... but what if you end up with a stalker … or worse?
On Wednesday night’s edition of Dr. Drew On Call, online dating expert Julie Spira said that people need to become cybersleuths.
“One of the most important things you can do is make sure that you meet in a public place,” she stated. “Don't meet at your house. Don't let anybody know where you live."
She added, “Find out their screen name and tell your friends exactly what their screen name is and what site that you've met them on. Then when you're on your date ... text your friend [and tell them how you’re doing].
There’s much more to do Spira said, noting that individuals should also search their date's name on the web. “You might be surprised what pops up," she said. “I think at the end of the day, there's nothing more powerful than trusting your intuition."
Dr. Drew On Call airs Monday through Wednesday on HLN at 9 p.m. ET. Follow the show on Facebook and Twitter @DrDrewHLN.
