Letter offers life-saving transplant to stranger

  • John Hembree offered his 53-year-old kidney to David Edwards in a letter
  • The men had met at church only once

David Edwards was in desperate need of a kidney transplant when he opened his mailbox to find a handwritten note from a stranger.

It said: "I wanted to make sure all the results were final before asking you this question. I have a 53-year-old kidney. Would you like to have it?"

The letter was from John Hembree, a man that David met only once at church.

A month after the transplant, we caught up with them again to see how they're doing.
