Ryan Smith drives the inaugural parade route!

Ever wonder what Inauguration Day looks like from the president's perspective? Ryan Smith took a closer look at what Monday will look like from President Obama's shoes! He takes us on a little tour -- from the east front of the U.S. Capitol, down historic Constitution Avenue to the viewing stand -- guiding us through the parade from start to finish!

How did the parade get so big? Here are some fun facts about the event:

Marching bands and floats were added to the parade in the 1800s. For the 2013 parade, more than 2,800 groups applied to perform!
In 1977, Jimmy Carter was the only president to walk the entire parade route. Since then, every president has chosen to walk a portion of the route!
The Willard Hotel (on the route) is famous for secretly lodging Abraham Lincoln before his inauguration in 1861.
It's tradition for the president and his family to watch the parade from a viewing stand in front of the White House. In 1869, Ulysses S. Grant became the first president to do so.
