The Small Business Shoutout is a new series this year, because that's what Making it in America is all about!
We're talking about people like Ashley Jernigan. She started an online kids clothing boutique right out of her daughter's bedroom. It's called Southern Tots.
After Ashley was laid off, she needed to find more affordable clothes for her three kids. She also decided it was a great opportunity to do what she loved -- design the clothes herself! And voila, the idea for her small business was born. And it sure was a good one!
Ashley picked affordable manufacturers to keep her prices low, and she offered special deals and sales through Facebook, as a way to reach more moms. Southern Tots now has more than 188,000 fans on Facebook, and the company still offers daily discounts.
