Dr. Drew: What you really need to know about the flu

  • 'This is not a record-breaking flu season,' Dr. Drew says
  • More than 2,000 hospitalizations have been blamed on the virus so far this year

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 41 U.S. states have already reported extensive flu activity. More than 2,000 hospitalizations have been blamed on the virus.

On Tuesday night though, HLN’s Dr. Drew said, “When you listen to the media … you would think we're all going to die of the flu tomorrow -- but this is not a record-breaking flu season.”

He continued, “Here's what has happened with the flu this year. It started rapidly. It's coming on earlier than it usually does … but it's not ‘Oh my God, the worst epidemic we've ever seen'."
