Doug Phillips knew it was time for a change when his doctor diagnosed him with Type 2 diabetes in May of 2012. Some of his relatives already had diabetes, and he did not want to go down that path. So, he decided to drop 50 pounds in six months!
Phillips was 231 pounds when he got the diagnosis. He immediately jumped into a weight loss routine. He says he focused on eating healthier, sticking to proper portion size and exercising. That meant going to the gym every single day.
It paid off! By Thanksgiving of 2012, he had dropped down to 181 pounds. Phillips said he has more energy now, and he likes trying on clothes because they fit so much better. The best part though – Phillips does not have to take diabetes medication every day. His doctor said his blood work after his weight loss was amazing!
Phillips said people come up to him every day and ask if he is still losing weight. His message to others is: you can do it too! All it takes is a commitment.
