Jacqueline Durham was ready. The bridesmaids were in place, and the red and white dress fit beautifully. Halfway around the world, her husband-to-be had gathered some of his friends, attentive in fatigues. Then they all logged in. This is marriage in the 21st century. This is love for a military family on the move.
Jacqueline and Trey Durham started dating about two years ago. Trey is stationed at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia, but is currently deployed in Afghanistan. Jacqueline is expecting their first child, a daughter. When the couple decided the time was right to get married, they weren't going to let a little thing like distance get in the way. "Since we can be together, it'd make it special," Jacqueline told NBC 26.
In a small ceremony held in the couple's home, Jacqueline and Trey exchanged vows over Skype and even shared a kiss through an iPad screen.
"My love for you cannot be measured. You have filled a void in my life that I never knew was missing," she said.
"I promise to keep a strong family and keep you guys happy and love you forever," he said.
Trey is expected to be back home early this year, hopefully in time to welcome his new daughter and enjoy a little bit of newly wedded bliss.
