Three teens held on to a dead tree for dear life when the ice under them started to crack. They had been trying to see how far they could walk out on to a frozen lake in Show Low, Arizona. They didn’t make it very far. The ice started to break and they scrambled to grab on to a dead tree poking up through the frozen surface.
Two of the teens were stuck there for more than two hours -- a third was able to hop down and use his phone to call for help.
Temps got down into the 20’s by the time the boys were rescued. Their shoes actually froze to the ice!
The teens were treated for mild hypothermia, and later their moms made them apologize to the firefighters who risked their own lives to rescue them.
Punishment? Two of the moms tell KNXV the boys will get to keep their cell phones, after all, without them they might not have been rescued. But their video gaming systems may be off limits for a little while.
