American couples who want to adopt a child in Russia won't be able to once Russia’s president signs a new ban into law.
Lawmakers passed the ban earlier this week, which makes it illegal for hundreds of American families to travel to Russia and adopt children there.
A lot of people think this is retaliation ; Russian politicians are upset with President Obama for putting travel and financial restrictions on human rights abusers in Russia.
But supporters of the adoption ban say American adoptive families are abusive and that 19 children adopted in Russia have died since the 1990's.
The United States is the leading adoptive country in the world and most of the children adopted internationally here come from China or Russia.
Collette Marietta and Michael Holmes went through that process to bring their son and daughter back from Russia. They tell HLN’s Evening Express about what they saw there and how this new law will hurt American families.
