  • She has some great New Year's traditions that are fun for the whole family

We all have traditions, especially around the holidays. Whether it's a special dish the family makes every year, or maybe an activity everyone does together.  Traditions help us create a bond within our families, and then we can carry those memories with us forever.

And the great thing is, it's never too late or too early to start new family traditions! And what better time than the new year.

Jessica Denay is the founder of the Hot Moms Club & author of the Hot Mom's Handbook. She's an expert on all the latest celebrity mom trends and as a mom herself, she's helping redefine the modern American mom. Jessica stopped by Making it in America to share some great affordable tips for moms to start the year off right! She says traditions are so important, because they bond families and last with kids for a lifetime. Here are a few simple and affordable things that you can do with your family that can have a positive impact!

Create Memory Jars -- Each time your family has a fun memory, write it down on a post-it and put it in a jar.  Kids can decorate the jar to personalize it. Next year on Christmas Eve grab some eggnog and read and relive the laughs and memories…

Chalk Walk --  If the weather is nice, you can actually do this in December!  Arm the kids with colored chalk and walk the neighborhood leaving sweet notes and well wishes for the holiday and new year, with drawings on the sidewalks as you go. The kids will have a blast and neighbors will be delighted to open their doors to such cute sayings of happiness and gratitude and luck.

Unplug -- This year make it a point to portion out time each week, be it 30 minutes every day or 1-2 hours once a week, and completely unplug. A great way to do that is by starting the tradition of game night. Jessica says some of her favorite family vacation memories are of her family all playing cards and games. Another great way to unplug doing crafts with the kids.

Ice Painting -- A fun and festive twist to painting, and you can actually order the Polar Explorer’s Babbabox from, where everything you need is included in the box, along with a great book to help keep the kids engaged over the holiday break.

Each year create a Unique ‘Last Supper’ --  Get dressed up in’ fancy clothes’ have a candlelit dinner. Use the best silver and fancy glasses, or have a pajama dinner, with everyone in PJ’s. Maybe eat breakfast food for dinner,  or have a picnic in the living room -- anything that seems different will be fun and memorable for the kids, and it will be something they will look forward to each year.

Get Green -- We say it all the time, but this year, there are so many simple ways to incorporate recycling and earth friendly projects into your life.
