Justin Jedlica has had around 90 surgeries to achieve the look he has today.
The New York City resident has spent more than $100,000 in the past 10 years on enhancements that include lip augmentation, nose-jobs and rock hard prosthetic muscle.
He's flattered to be called the “Human Ken Doll." The 32-year-old has even said that getting him to quit would be like trying to get Picasso to stop painting.
On Monday night, HLN’s Dr. Drew took a closer look at what was behind his driving force.
“I'm interested in behaviors, " Dr. Drew told him. "I'm interested in extreme behaviors -- and you're extreme. It makes us worry there's something motivating that.”
Jedlica responded, “For me, it's an art form. It's a way to be creative and to work with a doctor to try to create something. My journey for modification has progressed where it's no longer a need.”
He continued, “I look at my body as sculpture … I don't want to look like everybody else.”
In order to pay for the expensive surgeries, Jedlica says he uses his savings and offers referral and consultation services as well, where he “helps other people to be able to modify themselves” the same way he has done. He also noted that his boyfriend of three years helps support the funding through his own business.
However, when clinical psychologist Michelle Golland appeared on the program, she told Jedlica, “I'm not saying you don't look attractive ... [but] at some point, though, there is a serious mental illness that could be happening here.”
She added, “You rationalize. You deflect. You don't look at the reality of what's being said to you. I'm concerned for you.”
But Jedlica said the surgeries have made “an amazing difference” in his life. Although there was concern after he admitted that he had experienced domestic violence growing up, Jedlica says his new appearance has opened him up to “a different group of people and new level of confidence” that he thinks he would have not been privy to had he not had the surgeries.
